Sous Chef

Location: Near Southend-on-Sea, Essex

Salary: Up to £35,000 per year, depending on experience

Hours: 45 hours per week. Varied shift patterns, predominantly 2pm–10pm.

About the role

A four-star hotel near Southend-on-Sea is seeking a Sous Chef to support the Head Chef and help lead its kitchen brigade. The hotel serves a restaurant and caters for conferences, banqueting and events.

This is a hands-on role for an experienced chef who can help deliver consistent food quality and smooth service across a varied operation. You’ll mainly work afternoon and evening shifts, with a usual finish time of 10pm.

Responsibilities

• Support the Head Chef with the day-to-day running of the kitchen
• Help lead and develop the kitchen team
• Oversee food preparation and service during your shifts
• Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation and hygiene
• Help deliver menus for restaurant service, conferences and banqueting
• Assist with stock control, ordering and waste management
• Keep the kitchen organised and support smooth shift handovers

Requirements

• Experience as a Sous Chef, or as a Chef de Partie ready to take the next step
• Experience working in a busy professional kitchen
• Strong teamwork, communication and organisational skills
• A hands-on approach and commitment to high standards
• Flexibility to work varied shifts, predominantly 2pm–10pm
