Coalville | Up to £60,000 | Progression to Head of Finance / Finance Director
What if your next Financial Controller role could eventually become your Finance Director role?
We're working with a profitable, cash-rich and growing SME in Coalville that's reached an interesting point in its journey.
The business has grown well, has a strong underlying operation and has ambitious plans for the next few years, including acquisitions.
But as the business has grown, the finance function hasn't quite developed at the same pace.
And that's where you come in.
The opportunityThey're looking for a Financial Controller who can take ownership of finance, improve reporting and help build a function that supports the next stage of growth.
Initially, there'll be a hands-on element. You'll be responsible for management accounts, cash flow forecasting, margins, job profitability and giving the MD a much clearer picture of business performance.
There are systems being changed, processes to improve and opportunities to bring work back in-house from external accountants.
You'll report directly to the MD, work with a small finance team and have the support of an external fractional CFO.
So plenty of autonomy, but support there when you need it.
Where could it go?They're not replacing someone. They're investing in someone.
The business needs a Financial Controller today, but as it continues to grow, including through acquisitions, they'll need more senior finance leadership.
For the right person, there's genuine potential to progress into Head of Finance and eventually Finance Director.
And the interesting part? You'll have helped build the finance function you could one day lead.
Who would suit this?Someone practical, commercially minded and comfortable working in an SME.
You might be ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified. You might be part-qualified with a few exams left, or you might be qualified by experience.
They're open-minded on qualifications. What's more important is finding someone with the right experience who can take ownership and make a difference.
You'll have a good understanding of management accounts, cash flow, reporting and margins. Experience of job costing would be particularly useful.
A background in engineering, manufacturing, maintenance, services or another operational business would be helpful, but they're open-minded on sector too.
Ultimately, they're looking for someone who enjoys getting into the detail, improving things and growing with a business.
The packageUp to £60,000 salary
25 days' holiday + bank holidays
Pension and free parking
Office-based in Coalville
One day WFH after successful completion of a six-month probation period
Flexibility around family commitments
Genuine longer-term progression to Head of Finance / Finance Director
This isn't a role where everything is already perfectly set up. And that's probably its biggest selling point.
If you enjoy improving things, want to work closely with the people running the business and like the idea of building something you could eventually lead, it's definitely worth a conversation.
