Hays Senior Finance are partnering with a well-established and growing manufacturing and engineering business to recruit an experienced Financial Controller.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded finance leader to join a successful organisation operating within a complex, project-led manufacturing environment.

Reporting directly to the senior leadership team, you will lead the finance function, provide strategic financial insight and support operational decision-making across the business. You will play a key role in driving financial performance, enhancing reporting processes and supporting future growth initiatives.

This position offers genuine business exposure, the opportunity to influence decision making and the chance to work closely with stakeholders across operations, manufacturing, engineering and commercial teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation of monthly management accounts, delivering accurate and insightful financial reporting.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial planning processes.
• Manage cash flow forecasting, working capital and treasury activities.
• Lead the year-end process, including statutory accounts preparation and external audit management.
• Drive financial control across manufacturing operations, including inventory, stock valuation and cost accounting.
• Monitor and analyse manufacturing performance, margins and operational KPIs to support business decisions.
• Partner with operational and engineering teams to improve profitability and efficiency.
• Oversee payroll, VAT compliance and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Manage fixed asset accounting, capital expenditure reporting and investment appraisal.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls and company policies.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.
• Lead, develop and mentor the finance team.
• Exposure to North American reporting structures, including US GAAP and FRS 102 (not essential)

About You

You will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with proven experience operating within a manufacturing, engineering or industrial environment and ideally with some exposure to US GAAP. (not essential)

You will also possess:

• Strong financial control and management accounting experience.
• A solid understanding of manufacturing accounting principles, including costing, inventory and stock control.
• Experience working with ERP systems within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to influence and challenge stakeholders.
• Experience supporting operational teams through insightful financial analysis.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• A proactive approach with a track record of driving process improvement and change.
