Legal Counsel | Hybrid, two days onsite | Permanent | 35 hours per week

A purpose-led organisation is looking for a commercially minded Legal Counsel to join its established legal and governance function.

This is a broad in-house position for a qualified lawyer who has built sound commercial-contracting foundations and now wants greater exposure to business partnering, governance, data-related matters and organisational risk. You will work closely with a Senior Legal Counsel and colleagues across commercial, procurement, governance and operational teams.

The role

You will:

  • draft, review and negotiate supplier and customer contracts;
  • advise on standard terms, bespoke agreements, NDAs and procurement matters;
  • provide clear, proportionate advice on commercial and contractual risk;
  • support colleagues with data-protection clauses and wider information-governance matters;
  • contribute to the maintenance of contract templates, precedents and legal policies;
  • advise on a varied range of matters which may include intellectual property, insurance, advertising and corporate governance;
  • build productive relationships with non-legal stakeholders;
  • support legal training and promote consistent risk management across the organisation; and
  • work with external legal advisers where specialist advice is required.

About you

You will be a qualified solicitor or legal executive with demonstrable experience of drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.

You are likely to have experience involving several of the following:

  • supplier and customer agreements;
  • procurement contracts;
  • NDAs and confidentiality provisions;
  • data-protection and information-security clauses;
  • legal-risk assessment;
  • development of templates, precedents or policies; and
  • advising stakeholders in clear, practical language.

Previous in-house experience would be useful but is not essential. Applications are welcomed from private-practice lawyers who can demonstrate strong commercial drafting skills and an interest in developing a broad in-house career.

This opportunity is unlikely to suit someone whose experience has been confined primarily to litigation, employment, corporate transactions, intellectual property or data protection without meaningful commercial-contract exposure.

Package

  • 35-hour working week
  • Hybrid working with two days onsite
  • 30 days’ annual leave
  • Additional Christmas leave
  • Volunteering leave
  • Pension with enhanced employer contributions
  • Free onsite parking
  • Access to an onsite gym and subsidised café
  • Training, mentoring and professional development
  • Employee discounts and wellbeing support

Why consider it?

This is an opportunity to join a supportive legal function where your work will have a visible organisational and social impact. You will gain broad exposure, work directly with senior legal colleagues and develop as a rounded commercial in-house lawyer.

For a confidential discussion and a fuller briefing on the organisation, team and work, please apply or contact Sophie Clarke at Reed (Norwich).
