SEN Learning Support Assistant

Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs?

The Teach Team is working in partnership with specialist schools across the Nuneaton area and is looking for dedicated, enthusiastic and experienced SEN Teaching Assistants to join their teams.

Our partner schools support pupils with a range of special educational needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, communication and interaction difficulties, sensory processing needs, complex learning difficulties and associated behavioural challenges.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who thrive in specialist educational settings and are committed to helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop essential life skills, build confidence and reach their full potential.

If you have experience supporting children and young people with additional needs, are confident implementing positive behaviour strategies and have a genuine passion for helping every pupil succeed, we would love to hear from you!

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils' learning, development and emotional well-being. You will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the wider school team to provide tailored support based on each pupil's individual needs.

Depending on the school and placement, your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with autism, ADHD, SEMH needs and complex learning difficulties.
  • Supporting pupils with communication and interaction difficulties, helping them express their needs, develop social skills and engage with learning.
  • Assisting pupils who experience emotional regulation difficulties, anxiety, sensory sensitivities or barriers to classroom participation.
  • Supporting pupils who may display distressed or challenging behaviour, using consistent, positive and appropriate behaviour management strategies.
  • Implementing individual learning plans, behaviour support plans and other strategies designed to meet pupils' specific needs.
  • Adapting learning activities to suit pupils' individual abilities, developmental stages and learning styles.
  • Helping to maintain a safe, structured, predictable and nurturing learning environment.
  • Encouraging independence, confidence, positive relationships and the development of everyday life skills.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams and other professionals to support pupils' progress and well-being.
The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking caring, resilient and adaptable individuals who understand the importance of providing consistent, individualised support to children and young people with special educational needs.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or within a specialist educational setting.
  • Experience supporting pupils with one or more of the following: autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties, sensory needs or complex learning needs.
  • Confidence supporting pupils who may experience emotional dysregulation or display distressed or challenging behaviour.
  • An understanding of positive behaviour support, emotional regulation and strategies for promoting engagement.
  • The ability to remain calm, patient and consistent in challenging situations.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
  • A flexible and proactive approach to meeting individual learning, communication and emotional needs.
  • A genuine commitment to promoting inclusion, independence, confidence and positive outcomes for every pupil.

Experience in specialist SEN schools is desirable, although candidates with relevant transferable experience in mainstream schools, alternative provision, residential settings or care environments are also encouraged to apply.
