Bookkeeper Location: Gloucester Salary: £30,000 – £35,500 Hours: Full-time, Permanent Are you an experienced Bookkeeper looking for a role where you can take ownership of the finance function and really make an impact? We're working with a growing, well-established business in Gloucester that is looking for a confident and organised Head Bookkeeper / Company Accountant to join its friendly team. This is a fantastic opportunity to become a key part of a successful SME, working closely with the Directors and taking responsibility for the day-to-day accounts, financial reporting and supporting the continued growth of the business. The Role You'll be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the finance function, with duties including: Managing day-to-day bookkeeping using Xero Processing sales and purchase invoices, expenses and bank reconciliations Managing CIS returns, subcontractor payments and deductions Preparing VAT returns, including domestic reverse charge Producing monthly management accounts, P&L reports and cash flow summaries Monitoring aged debtors, creditors and payment schedules Managing project costs, retentions and contract profitability Processing payroll journals and supporting payroll activities Preparing financial information and reports for the Directors Maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring HMRC compliance About You We're looking for someone who is confident managing a busy accounts function and enjoys having responsibility for their own workload. Ideally, you'll have: Previous experience in a Bookkeeper, Senior Bookkeeper or Company Accountant role Strong working knowledge of Xero Experience with CIS and construction industry accounting Good understanding of VAT, including domestic reverse charge Experience preparing management accounts and financial reports Strong Excel skills and excellent attention to detail AAT Level 4 qualification or equivalent experience (desirable) A proactive, organised and hands-on approach Experience within construction, property services, engineering or a similar project-based environment would be particularly beneficial.
