We are looking for a motivated and organised Assistant Accountant to join the finance team of a well established law firm.

Working closely with the Accounts Manager, the successful candidate will provide day-to-day support across the firm's finance function, ensuring transactions are processed accurately and efficiently and that fee earners and support staff receive a responsive and professional service.

This is a varied role offering an excellent opportunity to develop your accounting experience within a professional legal environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Processing cash transactions, including receipts, payments and transfers.
  • Handling and maintaining petty cash.
  • Updating and posting receipts and other financial transactions onto the relevant ledgers.
  • Responding promptly and professionally to queries from Fee Earners and Support Staff.
  • Providing general accounting and administrative support to the Accounts Manager.
  • Assisting with the preparation and provision of information required by the firm's auditors.
  • Preparing financial reports and other information as required.
  • Carrying out general finance and office administration duties.
  • Ensuring financial records and documentation are maintained accurately and in accordance with the firm's procedures.
  • Assisting with other finance-related tasks as required.
  • Undertaking such other duties and responsibilities as may reasonably be delegated from time to time.

The ideal candidate:

  • Have at least one year's practical experience within a finance or accounts environment.
  • Ideally hold a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related subject, although this is not essential where the candidate has relevant experience.
  • Have excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Be confident working with financial information and maintaining accurate records.
  • Have good Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Be comfortable responding to queries from colleagues at all levels.
  • Have strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
  • Be a good communicator with a professional and approachable manner.
  • Be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider finance team.
  • Demonstrate discretion and understand the importance of confidentiality when handling financial and client information.
  • Have a genuine interest in developing their career within finance and accounting.

What the Role Offers:

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious finance professional to join an established law firm and develop their accounting career within a supportive and professional environment.

Whether you are a graduate with a year's practical finance experience or an experienced Accounts Assistant looking for your next step, this role offers the opportunity to broaden your accounting knowledge and gain valuable experience within a professional legal environment.
