Are you a qualified auditor looking for a role where your technical skills and client relationships genuinely matter? This is an opportunity to join a highly regarded accountancy practice in Preston, taking real ownership of a varied client portfolio and playing a central role in delivering quality audit work from planning through to completion.

This is a role for someone who enjoys the full breadth of audit work: the technical challenge, the client contact, and the opportunity to develop the people around them. You'll work closely with managers, directors, and partners in a team that invests seriously in its people and their long-term growth.

Working pattern: Hybrid (two home working days per week, core office hours 10am to 2pm).

What you'll be doing

  • Managing a portfolio of clients across a range of industries, ensuring all deadlines are met and work is carried out in line with relevant regulations
  • Leading on audit planning, including producing planning memoranda, identifying risk areas, and determining the most effective approach to gathering audit evidence
  • Supervising and reviewing the work of senior, semi-senior, and junior team members, ensuring files are complete and all review points are resolved before passing to the manager or partner
  • Corresponding directly with clients to organise assignments, agree timelines, and coordinate scheduling
  • Completing on-site client visits, acting as a trusted point of contact and building strong, lasting working relationships
  • Monitoring filing deadlines across the portfolio, including corporation tax and Companies House submissions
  • Liaising with other departments to ensure compliance work is planned and delivered at the right time
  • Collating and summarising project data into clear, reviewable formats, including draft projections and reports

What we're looking for

  • ACA or ACCA qualified, with solid experience gained in an accountancy practice
  • Up-to-date technical knowledge of accounting standards and recent developments in the field
  • Proficient in Sage, Excel, and Word; knowledge of CaseWare would be an advantage
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage confidently across a range of clients and colleagues
  • Well organised, with the ability to manage a varied workload and competing priorities effectively
  • Client-focused and commercially aware
  • Some prior experience supervising junior members of staff (6 to 12 months preferred)

Nice to have

  • Basic knowledge of corporation tax computation preparation
  • Experience with CaseWare audit software

Why join

Our client places a genuine emphasis on the wellbeing, development, and recognition of their people, and that commitment is reflected in what they offer:

  • Hybrid working with two home working days per week and flexible core hours (10am to 2pm)
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to buy or sell up to five additional days
  • Competitive salary, negotiable based on your experience and expertise
  • Employee recognition awards, including performance bonuses and other recognition initiatives
  • Structured succession planning and a supportive management framework to help you achieve your long-term goals
  • Employee Assistance Programme, providing free, confidential 24-hour support, including unlimited counselling sessions and access to virtual GP services for you and your family
  • A culture that takes professional development seriously, with strong investment in learning at every level
