Accounts Manager

Location: Office-based (9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday to Friday)
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum

The Opportunity

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing construction company seeking an experienced Accounts Manager to oversee the day-to-day finance function. This is a hands-on role suited to an organised and detail-oriented individual who enjoys managing all aspects of accounts while supporting the wider business operations.

Working closely with senior management, you will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance requirements are met, and providing valuable financial information to support business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Finance & Accounts

• Managing the Sales Ledger function, including invoicing and cash allocation.
• Managing the Purchase Ledger, ensuring supplier invoices are processed accurately and on time.
• Maintaining the Nominal Ledger and general accounting records.
• Conducting Credit Control activities to ensure timely customer payments.
• Performing daily and monthly Bank Reconciliations.
• Preparing Month-End reports and associated reconciliations.
• Preparing and submitting VAT Returns.
• Managing Import Duty records and related compliance requirements.
• Assisting with the production of Quarterly Management Accounts.
• Supporting year-end processes and liaising with external accountants where required.
• Ensuring financial records are accurate and maintained in accordance with company procedures.

Administration & Compliance

• Assisting with Health & Safety administration and record keeping.
• Providing general office administration support.
• Maintaining company records and documentation.
• Supporting directors and management with ad-hoc reporting and administrative tasks.

Person Specification

Essential Requirements

• Minimum AAT Level 3 qualification.
• Previous experience in a similar Accounts Manager, Finance Manager, Senior Bookkeeper, or Management Accountant role.
• Strong understanding of:
  • Sales Ledger
  • Purchase Ledger
  • Credit Control
  • Bank Reconciliations
  • Month-End Processes
  • VAT Returns
• Previous experience using Pegasus Opera 3.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Strong IT skills including Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.

Desirable Requirements

• Experience preparing or assisting with Quarterly Management Accounts.
• Knowledge of Import Duty processes and compliance requirements.
