Are you a passionate English Teacher looking to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people?

We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist independent school in the East Grinstead area that supports students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Set within a beautiful rural environment, the school provides a personalised and nurturing approach to education, underpinned by values of respect, kindness, resilience, creativity, responsibility and integrity. Students benefit from a broad curriculum that combines academic learning with outdoor, practical and therapeutic opportunities.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and resilient English Teacher to teach Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 pupils, helping them develop confidence, literacy skills and a positive relationship with learning.

The Role

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated English lessons across KS3 and KS4.
  • Teach English Language and Literature, adapting learning to meet individual needs.
  • Create a safe, structured and nurturing classroom environment where students can thrive.
  • Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and wider support staff to maximise student engagement and achievement.
  • Use effective behaviour management strategies and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Track, assess and report on pupil progress.
  • Support literacy development across the curriculum.
  • Build positive relationships with students, families and colleagues.
  • Contribute to EHCP reviews, interventions and whole-school development.
  • Promote students' personal, social and emotional development.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds QTS, QTLS or an equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Has experience teaching English at KS3 and KS4 level.
  • Has experience of, or a strong interest in, working within SEMH, SEND or alternative provision settings.
  • Is resilient, adaptable and committed to achieving the best outcomes for every learner.
  • Can build strong, trusting relationships with young people.
  • Has excellent communication, organisation and classroom management skills.

What's on Offer?

  • Long-term supply, temp-to-perm or permanent opportunities available.
  • Supportive leadership team and collaborative staff culture.
  • Small class sizes and personalised learning approaches.
  • A rewarding role where you can make a lasting impact on young people's lives.
  • Unique rural setting with extensive outdoor learning opportunities.
