Are you a passionate English Teacher looking to make a real difference?

We are seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic and resilient English Teacher to join an Alternative Provision setting, supporting students aged 11-16 who may have experienced barriers to learning within mainstream education.

This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher who can inspire a love of reading, writing and communication while helping young people rebuild their confidence and re-engage with education.

You will deliver engaging, accessible English lessons tailored to individual learning needs, supporting students to develop essential literacy skills, express themselves confidently and work towards achieving their academic potential.

The successful candidate will understand the importance of building positive relationships, providing consistent support and creating a safe, structured environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed.

The role is offered on a full-time, temporary-to-permanent basis, with the potential for a long-term position for the right candidate.

The Role

As an English Teacher, your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.

  • Teaching reading, writing, spelling, grammar, comprehension and communication skills.

  • Preparing students for relevant qualifications, including GCSE English Language and Literature where appropriate.

  • Adapting lessons and resources to meet a range of abilities, learning styles and additional needs.

  • Supporting students who may have gaps in their learning, low confidence or difficulties engaging with education.

  • Creating a positive, inclusive and structured learning environment.

  • Managing behaviour effectively through consistent, positive and restorative approaches.

  • Assessing student progress, identifying areas for development and providing constructive feedback.

  • Encouraging students to develop their creativity, critical thinking and confidence in expressing themselves.

  • Working collaboratively with teaching assistants, pastoral teams and other professionals to support student progress and wellbeing.

  • Promoting safeguarding, inclusion and the highest standards of student welfare.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.

  • Has experience teaching English at secondary level, ideally across Key Stages 3 and 4.

  • Has strong subject knowledge and the ability to make English engaging and accessible.

  • Can build positive, trusting relationships with young people who may be disengaged from mainstream education.

  • Demonstrates patience, resilience, empathy and effective classroom management skills.

  • Can differentiate lessons to support students with varying abilities and additional learning needs.

  • Is passionate about improving literacy and helping young people develop essential life skills.

  • Works effectively as part of a team and communicates confidently with colleagues and external professionals.

  • Is committed to inclusive education and helping every student achieve meaningful progress.

Experience within Alternative Provision, Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), SEMH settings or other specialist educational environments would be advantageous.

Why Apply?
  • Make a genuine difference to the lives and futures of young people.

  • Help students rebuild their confidence and develop essential literacy skills.
