A well-established engineering and technical services business based in Exeter is seeking an Accounts Assistant to join its finance team on an initial 4-month contract. Supporting a busy operation that delivers projects across the UK, this role will play a key part in ensuring suppliers are paid accurately and on time while maintaining strong financial controls.

Your new role

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will support the day-to-day running of the finance function, with a particular focus on purchase ledger, supplier payments and financial administration.
Key responsibilities will include:

• Processing purchase invoices and matching them to purchase orders
• Reconciling supplier statements and resolving invoice queries
• Assisting with weekly and monthly payment runs
• Raising sales invoices and processing credit notes
• Allocating incoming payments and maintaining sales ledger records
• Supporting credit control and monitoring outstanding balances
• Processing bank transactions and performing reconciliations
• Assisting with month-end reporting and balance sheet reconciliations
• Processing employee expenses and company credit card transactions
• Maintaining accurate records across the finance system
• Providing general finance support to the wider team as required

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will have previous experience working within an Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant or Assistant Accountant position.
You will also possess

• Strong purchase ledger and supplier reconciliation experience
• Good working knowledge of Excel
• Experience using accounting software
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
• The ability to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines
• Strong communication skills and a proactive approach

Experience within engineering, manufacturing, construction or project-based environments would be advantageous but is not essential.What you'll get in return
