Your Role as an SEN Teaching Assistant

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will help pupils access learning, communicate their needs and practise skills that support greater independence.

• Prepare accessible resources and reinforce learning at a pace appropriate to the pupil.
• Support individuals and small groups during lessons and agreed interventions.
• Help pupils follow routines and participate in social activities using school-approved approaches.
• Work closely with the teacher and SENCO, recording observations that help inform next steps.

What We Are Looking For in an SEN Teaching Assistant

• Relevant SEND experience through school work, childcare, care, mentoring or youth support.
• An attentive SEN Teaching Assistant with a consistent approach and clear communication.
• The ability to take guidance, work collaboratively and recognise when additional support is needed.
• An enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to apply for one, alongside satisfactory safeguarding checks.
