We are seeking an organised, reliable and proactive Transport Operator to join our clients team in Barnsley. You will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day running of the transport operation, ensuring administrative tasks, transport planning and driver coordination are managed efficiently.

Salary: £35,000–£40,000 per annum, depending on experience

Working Pattern: 100% on-site, with weekly rotating shifts of 7:00am–4:00pm and 9:00am–6:00pm.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate records relating to vehicle servicing, defects, driver training, holidays and absences.
• Support daily transport planning, driver scheduling and the smooth running of operations.
• Liaise with drivers, customers, suppliers and external agencies to coordinate resources and resolve queries.
• Assist with arranging driver cover and managing changes to staffing requirements.
• Process and maintain documentation, including purchase orders, proof of delivery documents and invoices.
• Support driver management, including work allocation, general queries and driver debriefs.
• Prepare and update operational reports, ensuring information is accurate and up to date.
• Monitor vehicle maintenance requirements and support compliance with relevant transport legislation.
• Follow company policies and procedures while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency.
• Assist the Contract Manager with operational projects and other duties as required.

About You

• Previous experience in transport, logistics or fleet administration would be advantageous.
• Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
• Confident communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships.
• Good IT skills and experience maintaining records and handling administrative tasks.
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced working environment.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• A willingness to learn and develop knowledge of transport operations and compliance requirements.
