At Hft, our vision is to create a future where learning disabled people can live the best life possible. We do this by coming together to campaign for positive change, provide personalised support and create solutions for living independently.

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Internal Communications Manager to join our People & Culture team and lead our internal communications agenda across Hft.

About the role

This is a strategic and hands-on role where you’ll play a key part in keeping our colleagues informed, engaged and connected to our purpose, values and priorities.

Working closely with our CEO, Chief People Officer, Executive Team and senior leaders, you’ll shape and deliver high-impact communications that reach colleagues across the organisation – from corporate teams to our frontline workforce.

You’ll take ownership of our internal communications channels and content, including our Hub, internal social media, e-newsletters, campaigns and colleague events. You’ll also play a central role in our Big Conversation, creating opportunities for colleagues to have their voices heard and helping leaders communicate clearly, consistently and authentically.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead Hft’s internal communications strategy, ensuring activity is aligned with our organisational priorities, vision and values.
  • Develop and deliver engaging, accessible communications and campaigns on behalf of the Executive Team and senior leaders.
  • Build strong, two-way communication with colleagues, creating opportunities for feedback, dialogue and colleague voice.
  • Own and develop our internal communications channels, including the Hub, newsletters, internal social media and corporate content.
  • Establish a clear internal communications calendar and ensure activity is well planned, coordinated and joined up.
  • Develop and embed a distinctive Hft tone of voice and communications framework.
  • Support leaders and managers to communicate effectively through training, guidance and practical toolkits.
  • Use data, insight and feedback to measure the effectiveness of communications and continually improve our approach.
  • Create engaging content across a range of formats, including written communications, presentations, video, graphics and campaigns.
  • Work closely with our External Communications and People teams to ensure messaging is consistent and opportunities to engage colleagues are maximised.
  • Lead and support the development of the Internal Communications Officer, creating a positive environment for performance, wellbeing and professional development.
  • Manage sensitive and high-profile communications, using sound judgement and awareness of reputational risk.
  • Support employee engagement activity and help turn colleague feedback into meaningful action.

About you

You’ll be an experienced internal communications professional who can combine strategic thinking with excellent delivery skills.

You’ll be a confident writer and communicator, able to take complex information and turn it into clear, engaging and accessible messages for different audiences. You’ll be comfortable working with senior leaders, influencing stakeholders and advising on the best way to communicate important or sensitive messages.

We’re particularly interested in people who have experience of:

• Delivering internal communications and engagement across a dispersed or remote workforce.

• Developing communication strategies and advising senior stakeholders.

• Managing multiple communication channels and measuring their effectiveness.

• Building colleague engagement through creative and innovative communications.

• Using data and insight to shape communications and demonstrate impact.

• Designing and delivering communications training for managers and leaders.

• Managing sensitive communications and reputational risk.

• Working collaboratively across complex or matrix-style organisations.

You’ll be creative, solutions-focused and proactive, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities. Most importantly, you’ll be someone who understands that great internal communications are about more than simply sharing information – they’re about creating connection, building trust and making sure every colleague feels informed and heard.

Why join Hft?

You’ll have the opportunity to make a genuine difference to how our colleagues experience Hft and how connected they feel to our purpose.

You’ll join a collaborative People & Culture team and have the opportunity to shape and evolve our internal communications approach at an important time for the organisation.

Working arrangements

This is a national hybrid role with regular travel to Hft services and other locations across the organisation.
