Are you a compassionate and resilient Teaching Assistant looking to make a genuine difference in the lives of children and young people?

We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist independent school in the East Grinstead area that supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Set within a unique rural environment, the school provides a nurturing and therapeutic approach to education, helping learners develop academically, socially and emotionally. The school promotes values including respect, kindness, resilience and personal growth, with a strong focus on individualised support and wellbeing.

We are currently seeking Teaching Assistants to support both primary and secondary-aged pupils. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting vulnerable learners and helping them overcome barriers to education.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide tailored support to pupils with SEMH and additional communication needs.
  • Work closely with teachers and support staff to deliver engaging and accessible learning experiences.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils to support their educational and emotional development.
  • Help maintain a calm, safe and structured learning environment.
  • Support students both within the classroom and during wider school activities.
  • Assist with lesson preparation, resource organisation and record-keeping.
  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage social and emotional development.
  • Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies at all times.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or additional needs.
  • Holds a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).
  • Has GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent).
  • Holds a full driving licence.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Is calm, patient and emotionally resilient.
  • Understands the importance of consistency, positive behaviour support and relationship building.
  • Has an interest in trauma-informed practice and inclusive education.
  • Works collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

What’s on Offer?

  • Competitive daily rate - £120 per day.
  • Full-time, term-time only position.
  • A supportive and welcoming staff team.
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • Small class sizes and a personalised approach to learning.
  • The opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of children and young people with SEMH needs.
  • A unique educational setting with extensive outdoor learning opportunities.
