Interim Capital Accountant – NHS / Public Sector

Location: London

Hybrid working: 2 days on-site per week, Wednesday as a core day

Contract length: Initial 3 months minimum, with likely extension

Start: ASAP

Salary / Rate: Competitive, dependent on experience

Are you an experienced Capital Accountant with strong, hands-on fixed asset accounting experience? We are seeking an interim finance professional to join a large public sector healthcare organisation in Stanmore.

This role is ideal for someone who can hit the ground running, take ownership of the fixed asset register and confidently resolve capital accounting issues.

Applications are welcomed from suitably experienced NHS, local authority and wider public sector finance professionals.

The Role

You will be responsible for reviewing and improving the fixed asset register, ensuring asset information is accurate, complete and properly maintained. You will also support the wider capital accounting function and help maintain robust financial records and controls.

Key duties include:

  • Reviewing, reconciling and cleansing the fixed asset register.
  • Investigating and resolving discrepancies in asset records.
  • Managing capital asset additions, disposals and transfers.
  • Supporting accurate capital accounting and financial reporting.
  • Using financial systems to maintain asset data and improve processes.
  • Working with finance colleagues to ensure strong controls and reliable reporting.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Proven, hands-on capital accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of fixed asset registers and capital accounting processes.
  • Experience investigating and resolving asset accounting issues.
  • Confidence using financial systems and working independently.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.

Desirable:

  • NHS, local authority or wider public sector experience.
  • Experience using Asset400 or Real Asset Management (RAM).
  • Previous experience in a Capital Accountant, Senior Capital Accountant or Capital Finance role.

Important: This role requires genuine capital accounting expertise. Candidates whose experience is primarily general financial accounting, without substantial hands-on capital or fixed asset accounting, are unlikely to be suitable.
