Temporary Procurement Assistant

Location: Bishop’s Stortford

Pay Rate: £14.10 per hour

Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week

Working Hours: 8:30am / 9:00am start, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch

Contract: Temporary, approximately 3–4 weeks

Start Date: As soon as possible

The Opportunity

SMT Recruitment are currently working with a well-established business who are looking for a Temporary Procurement Assistant to join their team for approximately 3–4 weeks.

This is an office-based role supporting the Procurement team with day-to-day purchasing activities, supplier communication and general administration. The successful candidate will help ensure orders are processed accurately and deliveries are managed efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Checking product codes, descriptions, quantities and pricing before orders are placed.
• Raising and issuing purchase orders in line with company procedures and budgets.
• Liaising with suppliers regarding product availability, lead times and delivery schedules.
• Confirming delivery dates and communicating updates to relevant teams.
• Tracking orders and proactively dealing with delays or supply chain issues.
• Arranging substitute or replacement products where required and updating internal systems.
• Maintaining accurate purchasing records and documentation.
• Supporting the Warehouse and Finance teams with stock receipting, purchase order reconciliation and invoice checks.
• Building positive working relationships with suppliers and internal colleagues.
• Providing general support to the Procurement team to ensure the smooth running of daily operations.

About You

• Previous experience in procurement, purchasing or administration would be beneficial.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Confident communicating with suppliers and internal teams.
• Good organisational and time management skills.
• Confident using Microsoft Office and internal computer systems.
• Able to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
• Available to start immediately and commit to the temporary assignment.
