Duty Manager – Full Time, near Dorking.

40 hours per week | Shift rota: 7am–3pm and 3pm–11pm, including weekends and bank holidays.

About the role

We are looking for a Duty Manager to join a country house hotel – it’s a successful and busy conference and wedding venue set in beautiful grounds.

You will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the hotel, leading the team, ensuring excellent guest experiences, and maintaining high standards across the operation.

What the role involves

• Overseeing the daily hotel operation and supporting the team to deliver a warm, professional, and welcoming service.
• Leading shift briefings, team communication, and operational handovers.
• Handling guest enquiries and resolving complaints, ensuring guests receive the best possible experience.
• Supporting reception, conference, and restaurant operations, particularly during busy periods.
• Motivating and developing the team, maintaining high standards of service, presentation, and attention to detail.
• Monitoring costs, maximising sales opportunities and supporting the achievement of financial targets.
• Ensuring hotel procedures are followed, including cash handling, licensing, Health & Safety, Fire Safety, and other legal requirements.
• Supporting stock control, equipment maintenance, and general hotel standards.

Person Specification

• Previous hotel experience is essential.
• Familiarity with Opera or a similar hotel management software package.
• Confident, friendly and professional, with excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Well organised, self-motivated and able to remain calm under pressure.
• Enjoy working with people and being part of a team.
• Professional in appearance and presentation.
• Physically able to lift and carry furniture.
