Job title: Practice Accountant

Salary: Up to 38k

Location: Aylesbury

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Practice Accountant to join our growing accountancy practice. The successful candidate will have previous experience working within an accountancy practice and will be confident managing a portfolio of clients across a range of sectors. This is a varied role, covering accounts preparation, tax returns, VAT, bookkeeping and general client support. You will work closely with clients and the wider team to deliver accurate and timely accounting services.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare year-end statutory accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships.
• Prepare and submit self-assessment and corporation tax returns.
• Complete VAT returns and provide VAT-related advice where required.
• Carry out bookkeeping and maintain accurate financial records.
• Reconcile bank accounts and control accounts.
• Prepare management accounts and financial reports.
• Review client accounts and identify discrepancies or areas requiring attention.
• Deal directly with clients, answering accounting and tax queries.
• Manage a portfolio of clients and ensure deadlines are consistently met.
• Assist clients with general accounting and business-related queries.
• Liaise with HMRC and other external organisations when required.
• Support senior members of the team with more complex accounting and tax matters.
• Ensure all work is completed accurately and in accordance with relevant accounting standards and legislation.

Requirements

• Previous experience within an accountancy practice.
• Strong knowledge of UK accounting and taxation.
• Experience preparing accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships.
• Experience with corporation tax and personal tax returns.
• Good understanding of VAT.
• Strong bookkeeping and reconciliation skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good communication and client-facing skills.

Desirable

• AAT, ACCA, ACA or equivalent qualification/part-qualified status.
• Experience using accounting software.
• Experience managing your own portfolio of clients.
