Assistant Financial Controller / Financial Controller

Monday–Friday, 9.00am–5.30pm
Fresh People is recruiting an Assistant Financial Controller / Financial Controller for an established accountancy and advisory firm in Canterbury.
Joining the firm’s internal finance team, you will take a hands-on role in financial reporting, control and day-to-day finance operations. Working closely with senior management, you will provide accurate financial information and meaningful analysis to support business decisions.
The role
- Prepare monthly management accounts, including reconciliations, variance analysis and commentary.
- Produce management information and support the preparation of Board papers and senior stakeholder presentations.
- Manage cashflow forecasting, banking and treasury activities.
- Oversee purchase and sales ledgers, payment runs and financial controls.
- Support annual budgets and forecasts, monitoring performance and highlighting risks and opportunities.
- Assist with year-end accounts and external audit requirements.
- Guide finance colleagues and improve reporting, systems and processes.
About you
- Fully ACA or ACCA qualified.
- Experience as a Financial Controller, Assistant Financial Controller, Finance Manager or an experienced Management Accountant ready to progress.
- Strong management accounting, budgeting, forecasting and cashflow experience.
- Confident interpreting financial results and explaining them to senior stakeholders.
- Comfortable combining detailed operational work with broader financial analysis.
- Strong Excel skills and experience using accounting systems.
- Organised, accurate and proactive, with the ability to manage deadlines and support colleagues.
Experience within accountancy, professional services or a comparable service-led business would be advantageous.
This position is fully office-based in Canterbury, so applicants must be able to commute daily.
