REED Education is working in partnership with a successful secondary school in Berkshire to recruit a reliable, practical and proactive Caretaker to join its friendly site team.

This is a hands-on role that offers plenty of variety. Working closely with the Facilities Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining a safe, secure and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors. No two days are the same, so this opportunity would suit someone who enjoys problem-solving, takes pride in their work and is happy to get stuck in.

Key Responsibilities

• Opening and closing the school site and ensuring security procedures are followed
• Carrying out general caretaking, portering and basic maintenance duties
• Undertaking minor repairs and using practical DIY skills to maintain the site
• Setting up classrooms, halls and equipment for lessons, events and activities
• Supporting school events and external lettings
• Helping to maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment across the site
• Responding to site-related issues and assisting with the day-to-day operation of the premises

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

• Reliable, organised and able to prioritise workloads effectively
• Comfortable working independently as well as part of a team
• Flexible and responsive to the needs of a busy school environment
• Friendly, approachable and a strong communicator
• Committed to maintaining high standards of health, safety and site presentation

Previous experience within caretaking, maintenance, facilities management, estates or a similar role would be advantageous, along with good practical and DIY skills.

Working Hours

The role is based on a 37-hour week, all year round. Shifts will typically fall between 6:00am and 6:00pm, with flexibility required to meet the operational needs of the school. Occasional evening and weekend working may be required.

Part-time applications will also be considered, with a minimum commitment of 4 days per week.
