We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with substantial building services experience to play a key role in maintaining and improving critical mechanical infrastructure within a busy operational healthcare environment.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking Estates team responsible for a diverse portfolio of buildings, including healthcare facilities, specialist environments, plant rooms, offices and public-facing spaces. You'll help ensure that essential engineering systems remain safe, compliant, efficient and fit for purpose, while contributing to major projects and long-term estate improvements.

The Role

As the Mechanical Engineer, you'll provide technical expertise across a broad range of building services systems, including:

  • Heating, chilled water and cooling systems
  • BMS-controlled plant and equipment
  • Lighting and emergency lighting
  • Domestic water services and distribution systems
  • Pumps, pipework and associated infrastructure

Working closely with Estates, Facilities and Capital Projects teams, you will support both day-to-day operations and strategic projects. You'll participate in maintenance programmes, assist specialist contractors, investigate technical issues and identify opportunities to improve performance, resilience and energy efficiency.

About You

We're looking for a technically strong engineer who enjoys solving problems, managing projects and working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.

You should have:

  • City & Guilds or BTEC, HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related mechanical discipline
  • Experience working within a large, complex estate such as healthcare, higher education, local authority, commercial or industrial environments
  • Strong knowledge of lighting, HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling and water systems
  • Knowledge of statutory compliance, building services maintenance and engineering standards
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Desirable

  • NHS or healthcare engineering experience
  • Knowledge of HTM guidance, water safety or specialist ventilation systems

This role offers the opportunity to influence the performance and future development of a significant estate, while working on a varied portfolio of engineering and infrastructure programmes. If you're looking for a position that combines technical challenges and operational responsibility, we'd love to hear from you.
