SEN Teacher
Reeson Education is recruiting an experienced SEN Teacher for a long-term position at a specialist school in Twickenham, starting in January 2027 and continuing through to July 2027.
This SEN Teacher vacancy is specifically focused on a primary-age ASD class and experience is going to be critical. The school is looking for someone capable of walking into the classroom, quickly understanding the pupils and establishing clear routines, boundaries and expectations. They need an experienced practitioner who can bring order and consistency while ensuring that teaching quality and pupil progress remain firmly at the centre of the classroom.
The School
This is a specialist setting for children and young people with autism and additional needs. Its approach combines personalised support and specialist teaching with high expectations for pupils, working to develop academic achievement alongside communication, confidence and independence. The school's curriculum is broad but highly differentiated, with learning broken into manageable stages and previous gaps in knowledge identified and addressed. Its literacy provision includes Read Write Inc, which is used beyond the programme's typical age range where pupils require continued support with reading.
The Role
The successful SEN Teacher will take responsibility for a primary ASD class from January through to the end of the 2026/27 academic year.
As the SEN Teacher, you will:
Take ownership of the class from the beginning of the placement.
Establish clear, consistent routines and expectations.
Plan highly differentiated lessons around pupils' individual starting points.
Maintain a strong focus on literacy, numeracy and wider curriculum development.
Use visual structure and appropriate autism-informed teaching strategies.
Identify gaps in knowledge and plan teaching accordingly.
Work closely with classroom support staff and provide clear direction.
Support communication, independence and emotional regulation.
Monitor progress and ensure teaching is having a measurable impact on learning.
Develop positive relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and expectations.
Experience Matters
This isn't an opportunity aimed primarily at someone looking for their first exposure to SEN. The school needs an SEN Teacher with sufficient experience to read the classroom quickly, recognise what isn't working and have the confidence to make changes.
We'd like to hear from:
An experienced SEN Teacher with recent autism experience.
Primary teachers with experience teaching pupils with ASD.
Teachers with recent special-school or specialist-provision experience.
Teachers with excellent classroom and behaviour-management skills.
Teachers who understand the importance of predictable routines for autistic pupils.
Teachers who combine empathy and patience with clear expectations.
Teachers who can demonstrate strong pupil progress rather than focusing solely on behaviour and pastoral support.
QTS holders with strong curriculum knowledge. The right SEN Teacher won't mistake structure for rigidity or nurture for low expectations. The school wants someone who can provide both support and challenge.
Why Take This Role?
This Twickenham school describes a philosophy built around children feeling safe, understood and able to succeed, using a consistent, nurturing approach alongside high expectations. For an experienced SEN Teacher, the January-to-July timeframe also gives you enough time to properly establish the class and see the impact of your work, rather than completing a short-term cover placement.
You will:
Take genuine ownership of a primary ASD classroom.
Establish stronger routines and classroom culture.
Deliver sustained teaching across two terms.
Develop meaningful relationships with pupils.
Work within a specialist SEN environment.
Demonstrate tangible progress The school's curriculum places particular importance on identifying gaps in previous learning, sequencing knowledge carefully and breaking learning into smaller steps to meet individual needs. That's particularly relevant for an experienced primary SEN Teacher who enjoys seeing the impact of targeted teaching over time. If you're looking for a long-term Twickenham position where your experience will genuinely be valued, this could be an excellent next step.
We are particularly interested in hearing from an SEN Teacher who has successfully taken responsibility for an ASD class before and knows how to establish expectations quickly.
