Estimating Engineer Location: Shannon, Co. Clare (on-site, with customer travel) Salary: €45,000 Reports to: Managing Director Job Type: Permanent, Full-time Syntech Recruitment is recruiting an Estimating Engineer for a precision subcontract machining business in Shannon, Co. Clare, producing high-precision components and assemblies for aerospace, medical and industrial customers. This is not a back-office pricing job. You will own every quote from the moment the RFQ lands to the moment the order is won. That means breaking down the drawings, pricing materials and special processes, agreeing the manufacturing route with Engineering, then staying with the customer until they make their decision. You will report directly to the Managing Director and become a main point of contact for many of the company's customers. Your numbers decide what work the business wins, and your follow-up decides how much of it comes through the door. The company is open to candidates from a range of industries. Why This Role * €45,000 basic salary * Permanent, full-time position * Full ownership of the quote cycle, from RFQ to order * Direct line to the Managing Director, not buried under layers of management * A central role in business development, not just a support function behind it * Customer visits, meetings, presentations and trade shows alongside the MD * Aerospace, medical and industrial work: technically demanding parts, specs and approvals * A real say in how the business prices, with win/loss feedback going straight into the process * Scope to rebuild the estimating tools and connect them to the ERP (ECi M1) What You'll Be Doing * Taking RFQ packs (drawings, 3D models, customer spreadsheets) and breaking them down part by part: material, special processes (heat treat, plating, anodise, passivation, NDT, coating) and bought-in items * Catching drawing, tolerance and spec issues early and raising them with the customer before they become a problem * Sourcing material and special-process prices from each customer's approved vendor list * Working out process route, cycle times and set-up with Engineering, then checking rates, margins and lead times before anything goes out * Submitting quotes on time, including through customer portals * Following every quote through to a decision, and handling technical questions, requotes, cost-downs and price reviews * Maintaining the quote register and pipeline the MD uses to manage the business * Spotting new opportunities with existing customers and helping bring in new ones * Handing own work cleanly to Engineering, Planning and Purchasing What You'll Bring * 3+ years in estimating, quotations, sales engineering or a technical customer-facing role. Precision or subcontract manufacturing is ideal, but other industries will be considered * A mechanical or manufacturing engineering qualification, or a trade background (toolmaking, CNC machining) backed by relevant experience * Confidence reading engineering drawings and 3D models, including GD&T * A working knowledge of CNC machining, engineering materials and special processes * Strong Excel skills * The confidence to talk with buyers, engineers and suppliers, and the persistence to chase a quote without being pushy * A commercial head: you understand margin, risk and the value of a long-term customer Desirable Experience * Aerospace or medical supply chain experience: approved vendor lists, material and process specs, AS9100 / ISO 13485 * Experience with customer supplier portals and formal RFQ processes * ERP experience (ECi M1 ideal) and familiarity with CAD viewers * A shop-floor or CAM background * A full, clean driving licence and willingness to travel, including occasional trips abroad Interested?
