Working closely with the Finance Director, this is a varied, hands-on Accounts Manager role with responsibility for overseeing the day to day finance function, including weekly and monthly payroll, purchase and sales ledgers with the support of an assistant, VAT returns and month end accounting. The successful candidate will take ownership of key accounting processes, ensuring accurate financial records, timely reporting and the smooth running of the finance function. Key Responsibilities
Manage weekly and monthly payroll using Xero Payroll, including overtime, variable pay, statutory deductions and pension contributions.
Oversee purchase and sales ledger activities, including invoice processing, supplier payments, credit control and account reconciliations.
Contribute to monthly management accounts, including accruals, prepayments, journals and balance sheet reconciliations.
Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with HMRC requirements.
Manage bank reconciliations, cashbook entries and general ledger maintenance.
Oversee supplier payment runs, monitor cash flow and support working capital management.
Reconcile payroll information, timesheets and overtime, investigating discrepancies and resolving queries.
Produce regular financial reports, including budget versus actual analysis and operational KPIs.
Assist with year end accounts preparation and liaise with external accountants and auditors.
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, financial controls and reporting systems.
Candidate Profile
Previous experience in an Accounts Manager, Company Accountant or similar hands on accounting role.
Strong understanding of purchase ledger, sales ledger, VAT and month end accounting processes.
Experience managing payroll, ideally including high volumes of overtime and variable pay.
Practical experience using Xero and Xero Payroll would be advantageous.
Good Excel skills and experience preparing reconciliations and financial reports.
Comfortable taking ownership of day to day accounting activities and managing competing deadlines.
Salary and Benefits
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000
