Primary Trained SEN Teacher – Boston (PE21)

Location: Boston, Lincolnshire (PE21)

Pay: £180 – £230 per day

Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 3:30pm (3:15pm finish on Fridays)

Contract: Temp to perm

Start date: ASAP

Essential: QTS or QTLS

Luma Education Recruitment is looking for a primary-trained SEN Teacher to lead numeracy at a small independent specialist school in Boston, Lincolnshire. You will teach a very small group of Key Stage 4 students with mild learning disabilities who are working at Key Stage 1 level, adapting the KS1 and KS2 maths curriculum for teenagers. Pupils are verbal, chatty and mostly settled, and are on site from 8:45am to 2:45pm, so the end of each day is kept for planning, marking and preparation. This is a temp-to-perm post starting as soon as possible.

About the School

The school is a small specialist provision in Boston for young people with learning disabilities, part of a wider group of specialist schools. Class sizes are tiny and every lesson has support staff alongside the teacher. The headteacher is rebuilding the curriculum and the teaching team, so you will help decide how maths is planned and assessed across the school.

The Role

  • Planning and teaching numeracy lessons pitched at KS1 and early KS2, presented in an age-appropriate way for 14–16 year olds
  • Turning maths into practical, everyday learning: money, time, measuring and counting in real situations
  • Setting small, achievable targets linked to each pupil's EHCP and recording progress
  • Working alongside teaching assistants and the colleague who leads literacy
  • Supporting pupils calmly and consistently through transitions and occasional periods of dysregulation
  • Joining a weekly after-school team meeting (until 3:45pm)

What You'll Need

  • QTS or QTLS (primary trained preferred)
  • Experience teaching maths at KS1 and/or KS2
  • Experience with pupils with learning disabilities or SEN, or a clear wish to move into SEND from mainstream primary
  • Confidence adapting a primary curriculum for older learners

You'll be patient, organised and calm, and enjoy getting to know each pupil well in a very small school.
