THE OPPORTUNITY Our client is a respected, family owned logistics business with more than a century of history, based in Greater Manchester. Its global operation is a freight forwarding business, around 85 to 90% European road freight, with a strong customer base and real ambition to grow. This is a senior, hands on role with a potential route to Global Operations Director. THE ROLE You will lead the global operation's team of five on site every day, working alongside a talented Operations Manager and bringing the people leadership and commercial edge to take the operation forward. Just as important is what you bring with you: an established network of European suppliers and customers, knowing who to call for quotes, routes and support in each of the main countries, and the creativity to make the business more competitive. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Lead the team. Manage, motivate and develop a team of five, firm when needed and respected always. - Run a tight operation. Stay hands on across European full loads, part loads and groupage. - Build and use the network. Develop haulier, agent and supplier relationships across Europe and beyond. - Win on value. Design creative, cost effective solutions that win work and protect margin. - Grow the business. Develop existing accounts and win new contracts alongside the commercial team. - Shape the future. Help set the direction of the global operation as it grows. ABOUT YOU - Extensive freight forwarding experience, particularly European road freight. - A strong people manager who is firm, fair and earns a team's respect. - An established network of European supplier and customer contacts. - Commercially astute, able to grow accounts, price competitively and win new business. - Creative and solutions focused, happy hands on and on site every day. - A working knowledge of customs processes for European freight would be a real advantage. WHAT IS ON OFFER - A base salary of £50,000 to £60,000, plus a company car and an uncapped bonus. - A potential route to Global Operations Director. - A senior role in a respected, family owned business with more than a century of history.
