Senior Mechanical Design Engineer | Colchester area | £50,000–£70,000 + benefits Are you an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys developing machinery from concept through to completion? We're looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a specialist manufacturing company in the Colchester area, designing bespoke automated machinery and precision handling systems. This is a hands-on design role where you'll use SolidWorks to develop completely new machines, working alongside electrical and software engineers to bring your designs to life. Duties Design and develop special-purpose machinery from concept through to completion Produce 3D models, assemblies and detailed drawings using SolidWorks Design precision mechanisms, automated handling systems and tooling for small, delicate components Develop machinery incorporating servo motors, stepper motors, robotics and vision systems Work alongside electrical and software engineers to develop new equipment Support prototyping, testing and continuous design improvements Requirements Strong mechanical design background, ideally within special-purpose machinery or automation Experience designing new machinery from initial concept Excellent 3D CAD skills, preferably SolidWorks Knowledge of mechanical mechanisms, moving assemblies and manufacturing processes Experience with precision machinery, robotics or automated handling systems would be advantageous Relevant engineering qualification or equivalent experience What's on Offer 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays Option to buy and sell holiday Life assurance Company gym/spa membership Employee Assistance Programme Training and further education opportunities Company social events This Senior Mechanical Design Engineer position would suit someone who enjoys hands-on design and developing machinery that doesn't currently exist.
