Are you an experienced Technical Sales Engineer, Field Applications Engineer or Applications Engineer with a strong background in electronic components?

This is an excellent opportunity to join an established specialist business with over 50 years of experience in the high-reliability electronics sector, supplying technically demanding customers across aerospace, defence, space, rail, industrial and other specialist markets.

The role combines technical expertise, customer engagement and commercial development, making it ideal for someone who enjoys understanding a customer's technical requirements and turning those requirements into commercially successful solutions.

The Role

As Technical Sales Engineer, you will play a key role in developing existing customer relationships while identifying and creating new business opportunities across the UK.

You will work closely with engineers, procurement teams, internal sales, product specialists and leading manufacturers, providing technical guidance and supporting customers through design-in and qualification projects.

This is not a transactional sales role. You'll be involved in understanding applications, specifying components, supporting design activity and developing long-term customer relationships.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Developing and managing strong technical and commercial relationships with customers.
• Identifying and developing new business opportunities across existing and prospective accounts.
• Supporting customer design activity, qualification projects and design-in opportunities.
• Providing technical guidance on component selection and application requirements.
• Acting as a technical resource for internal and external sales teams.
• Attending customer meetings, site visits, exhibitions and supplier visits.
• Working closely with engineering, product management, quality, internal sales and manufacturing partners.
• Supporting supplier presentations, technical training and joint customer visits.
• Managing opportunities from initial identification through to commercial conversion.
• Monitoring market trends, customer requirements, competitor activity and emerging technologies.
• Maintaining accurate opportunity, activity and forecasting information.

About You

We're looking for a technically credible sales professional who can comfortably engage with both engineering and commercial stakeholders.

You should have:

• Proven experience within technical sales, applications engineering, field sales engineering or a product specialist position.
• Strong knowledge of electronic and/or electromechanical components and their applications.
• Experience supporting customer design activity and design-in opportunities.
• A commercial mindset with the ability to identify, develop and convert opportunities.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• The confidence to work independently while collaborating with internal technical and commercial teams.
• A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly.

Experience within aerospace, defence, space, rail, industrial, audio or other high-reliability sectors would be particularly relevant.

Experience across areas such as passive components, capacitors, resistors, magnetics, power products, electromechanical components, EMC/RF, sensors or semiconductors would also be advantageous.

A degree in an Electrical or Electronic Engineering discipline would be desirable, although relevant industry experience will be equally important.
