Group Financial Accountant | Carlisle | £55,000–£60,000
Looking for a role that combines technical accounting with a wider view of how a business operates?
I’m recruiting for an established large group looking for a qualified accountant to join its Carlisle head office finance team.
You’ll get exposure to group reporting, budgeting, cash flow and financial analysis, working closely with senior finance colleagues and teams across the business. Alongside producing accurate accounts, you’ll have the opportunity to improve systems, challenge processes and provide information that helps shape business decisions.
What you’ll be doing
• Preparing consolidated financial statements and statutory accounts for group companies.
• Producing consolidated performance reports, board packs and clear financial commentary.
• Supporting group budgets and forecasts, including balance sheets and cash flow.
• Analysing performance, investigating variances and highlighting risks and opportunities.
• Coordinating external audits and working with regional finance teams to resolve accounting queries.
• Overseeing intercompany reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations and group accounting adjustments.
• Maintaining and developing consolidation, lease accounting and financial reporting systems.
• Strengthening financial controls and improving the accuracy and efficiency of reporting.
• Supporting tax and regulatory compliance alongside the Group Finance Director and Group Tax Manager.
• Contributing to projects and the implementation of new accounting requirements.
What we’re looking for
You’ll be ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, with strong technical accounting knowledge and a practical, hands-on approach.
Experience of statutory accounts, group reporting and consolidations will be important, alongside a good understanding of UK GAAP and FRS 101/102. Exposure to multi-entity or multi-currency businesses would also be relevant.
You’ll be confident using Excel and financial systems, comfortable explaining the numbers to colleagues outside finance and interested in finding better ways of doing things.
This could suit someone moving from practice into industry with relevant audit and group accounts experience, or an industry accountant looking for a broader group finance role.
What’s in it for you?
• A salary of £55,000–£60,000, depending on experience.
• Exposure to senior finance leaders and reporting used by the Board and external stakeholders.
• A varied remit combining technical accounting, analysis and business support.
• The opportunity to take ownership of improvements to systems, controls and reporting.
