Accounts Manager (Construction Industry)

Location: Romford, Essex

Salary: £40,000 - £43,000 per annum

Working Hours: Monday to Friday | 35 Hours per Week

Our client, a well established and growing construction company based in Romford, is looking to recruit an experienced Accounts Manager to join their finance team. Working closely with the Finance Director, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the business, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and effective financial management across multiple projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and support daily financial processes across the business
• Process and maintain the sales ledger
• Liaise with customers, issuing statements and resolving account queries
• Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns
• Reconcile customer accounts and resolve discrepancies
• Produce monthly aged debtor and aged creditor reports
• Assist with C.I.S administration, monthly returns, and subcontractor vouchers
• Prepare journals for management accounts, including accruals, prepayments, and depreciation
• Complete weekly bank reconciliations
• Process petty cash and company credit card expenses
• Work alongside Contracts Managers to monitor project costs and profitability
• Support cash flow management and reporting
• Set up new supplier and customer accounts
• Carry out general finance administration, filing, and correspondence
• Provide cover for colleagues during periods of annual leave
• Support the wider team with any additional accounting duties as required

About You

• Previous experience in a similar Accounts Manager or senior accounts position within the construction industry
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial processes
• Proficiency in Sage 50
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
• Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to problem solving
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
