We are recruiting for an Experienced Bookkeeper to join a friendly and growing accountancy practice based in Chelmsford. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced practice Bookkeeper who enjoys managing a varied workload and working with a diverse portfolio of clients. You’ll be joining a small, collaborative team with a modern approach to accounting and a strong focus on using technology to provide an efficient, high-quality service.

The position offers flexible working hours and a hybrid working arrangement, with four days per week based in the Chelmsford office.

Bookkeeper Benefits

Bookkeeper Responsibilities

• You will provide day-to-day bookkeeping support across a portfolio of clients
• Processing purchase and sales invoices
• Managing purchase ledger payment runs
• Processing regular and urgent payments
• Recording and posting bank transactions
• Managing bank feeds and completing bank reconciliations
• Reviewing debtor and creditor reports and ensuring accuracy
• Preparing cash reports showing client cash movements
• Preparing rental statements
• Preparing VAT returns for review
• Responding to client queries and other ad hoc requirements
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records

Bookkeeper Requirements

• We are looking for someone with a strong background in accountancy practice who can confidently manage their own bookkeeping workload.
• Minimum 3 years' accountancy practice experience
• Proven bookkeeping experience
• Strong hands-on knowledge of Xero
• Experience using Dext
• Experience preparing VAT returns
• Strong bank reconciliation experience
• Purchase and sales ledger experience
• Good Microsoft Office skills
• Strong IT skills and the ability to learn new systems
• Excellent attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and manage your workload
• A bookkeeping qualification or be qualified by experience
