This is a hands-on opportunity for an experienced payroll professional to manage a portfolio of client payrolls while supporting the day-to-day running of the payroll team. You will ensure payrolls are processed accurately and on time, provide guidance to colleagues and act as a point of contact for client queries.
Previous experience independently managing multiple client payrolls within a payroll bureau or accountancy practice is essential.
The Role
• Process end-to-end payrolls for a portfolio of clients across weekly, fortnightly and monthly pay frequencies.
• Obtain, review and validate client payroll information, including timesheets, overtime, salary changes and other adjustments.
• Process starters, leavers, statutory payments, PAYE, National Insurance and other deductions.
• Complete accurate and timely HMRC submissions, including FPS and EPS.
• Administer workplace pensions and auto-enrolment requirements.
• Complete year-end payroll processes, including producing P60s, and issue P45s for leavers.
• Check payroll work, investigate discrepancies and resolve complex queries.
• Support colleagues with payroll processing, technical queries and day-to-day workload priorities.
• Build effective client relationships, explaining payroll requirements and following up outstanding information.
• Maintain accurate, confidential records and keep payroll processes compliant with relevant requirements.
The Candidate
• Strong payroll bureau or accountancy practice experience, with responsibility for multiple external client payrolls.
• Confident independently managing payroll from receipt of client information through to final processing and submission.
• Strong working knowledge of PAYE, National Insurance, statutory payments, pensions and RTI reporting.
• Experience managing different payroll frequencies and competing client deadlines.
• Experience checking payroll work and supporting or training colleagues.
• Confident communicating directly with clients and resolving payroll queries.
• Strong attention to detail, organisational skills and proficiency with payroll software and Excel.
• Able to work fully office-based in Canterbury, Monday to Friday.
This position would suit an existing Payroll Bureau Supervisor, Payroll Team Leader or Senior Payroll Administrator with substantial bureau experience who is ready to take on further responsibility.
