School Maintenance Assistant

REED Education are delighted to be working with a friendly, small independent school in Cambridge that is looking to appoint a School Maintenance Assistant on a full-time, permanent basis from November 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on and proactive individual who takes pride in maintaining safe, clean, and well-presented environments. Working as part of the school's estates and facilities team, you will play a key role in ensuring that the school grounds, buildings, and facilities are maintained to a high standard for students, staff, and visitors.

The Role

As a School Maintenance Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out general maintenance, repairs, and basic DIY tasks across the school site
• Assisting with planned preventative maintenance and site inspections
• Maintaining school grounds and outdoor areas to a high standard
• Supporting the setup of classrooms, halls, and school events
• Monitoring health and safety standards across the site
• Reporting maintenance issues and liaising with contractors where required
• Assisting with security procedures, including opening and locking buildings
• Supporting the wider facilities team with day-to-day site operations

About You

The successful candidate will:

• Have previous experience in maintenance, caretaking, facilities, site management, or a similar role
• Possess good practical DIY and repair skills
• Have a strong awareness of health and safety procedures
• Be reliable, organised, and able to work independently
• Have excellent communication skills and a positive attitude
• Be willing to undertake a variety of maintenance and site-related duties

On-Call Requirement

Please note that this position includes participation in an on-call rota, which will typically be one week in every three, responding to any urgent out-of-hours site issues when required.
