This newly created position offers the chance to make a genuine impact, leading a small finance team while improving financial reporting, controls, and processes. Working closely with senior leadership, you will provide meaningful financial insight, drive performance visibility, and help shape the future of the finance function.

The Role

As Finance Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day finance operations while delivering accurate and timely management information to support business decision-making.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and developing a small finance team covering sales ledger, purchase ledger and credit control.
  • Producing monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow reporting, commentary and variance analysis.
  • Developing meaningful management information and KPI reporting for senior stakeholders.
  • Maintaining robust balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls.
  • Overseeing invoicing, supplier payments, credit control activities and cash collection performance.
  • Preparing and reviewing VAT returns and other routine compliance requirements.
  • Managing cash flow forecasting and improving visibility of working capital performance.
  • Coordinating budgeting and forecasting processes across the business.
  • Acting as the primary contact for external accountants and supporting year-end processes.
  • Leading finance process improvements, enhancing reporting, controls, and operational efficiency.
  • Providing commercial support and financial insight to senior management and departmental leaders.
The Candidate

We are seeking a qualified finance professional who combines strong technical expertise with a practical, hands-on approach.

You will ideally have:

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification.
  • Previous experience producing monthly management accounts and managing the month-end close process.
  • Strong knowledge of financial controls, VAT, reconciliations, cash flow management and transactional finance.
  • Experience leading credit control functions and driving aged debt recovery performance.
  • Experience managing or mentoring finance team members.
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence improving systems, reporting and processes.
  • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to meet multiple deadlines.
  • The confidence to challenge stakeholders constructively and influence decision-making.
Desirable Experience
  • SME or owner-managed business experience.
  • Exposure to service-led, engineering, contracting or field-based operational environments.
  • Experience bringing activities in-house from outsourced providers.
  • Experience supporting business growth, systems improvements or finance transformation projects.
  • Knowledge of contract, project or service-line profitability reporting.
What's on Offer?
  • A newly created role with significant autonomy and ownership.
  • Direct exposure to senior leadership and involvement in strategic decision-making.
  • The opportunity to shape and develop the finance function.
  • A varied role combining operational finance, reporting and business improvement initiatives.
  • Career development potential as the organisation continues to grow.
