Private Sector Housing Officer - South West - 6 Month Contract Private Sector Housing Officer 📍 South West England (Hybrid Working Available) 📅 6 Month Contract 🚀 Immediate Start Available A Local Authority in the South West is seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to join their team on an initial 6-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a housing professional with strong experience in housing standards, enforcement, HMO licensing, and private sector housing legislation. The Role You will be responsible for investigating housing complaints, carrying out property inspections, and taking enforcement action where necessary to ensure compliance with housing legislation. The successful candidate will work closely with landlords, tenants, and partner agencies to improve housing standards across the district. Key Responsibilities * Undertake inspections under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS). * Investigate complaints relating to disrepair, hazards, overcrowding, and poor housing conditions. * Carry out HMO inspections and licensing activities. * Prepare and serve statutory notices in line with relevant housing legislation. * Take informal and formal enforcement action where required. * Provide advice and guidance to landlords, tenants, and agents. * Maintain accurate case records and produce reports as required. * Support the council's wider private sector housing objectives. Requirements * Previous experience working as a Private Sector Housing Officer within a Local Authority. * Strong knowledge of: * Housing Act 2004 * HHSRS * HMO Licensing * Environmental Protection Act 1990 * Relevant housing enforcement legislation * Experience undertaking property inspections and enforcement casework. * Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. * Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle preferred.
