Environmental Health Officer / Enforcement Officer (Food & Health & Safety)

Pay Rate: £23.81 per hour PAYE / £31.35 per hour Umbrella

We are recruiting for an experienced Environmental Health Officer / Enforcement Officer to join a busy Wembley-based Local Authority on an ongoing temporary basis.

Working as part of the Food and Health & Safety Team, you will manage a varied caseload covering Food Safety, Health & Safety Enforcement, and Infectious Disease Control. This role offers flexible hybrid working, combining remote working with inspections, investigations, and site visits across the borough.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out food safety inspections and enforcement activities.
• Investigate food hygiene complaints and non-compliance issues.
• Respond to and investigate health & safety complaints and incidents.
• Assess and manage RIDDOR notifications.
• Undertake infectious disease control duties and interventions.
• Provide professional advice and guidance to businesses and stakeholders.
• Prepare enforcement notices, reports, and case files where necessary.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and council policies.
• Manage a diverse caseload of proactive and reactive environmental health matters.

Essential Requirements

• Diploma, BSc, MSc or equivalent qualification in Environmental Health.
• Registration with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).
• Current experience in food safety and health & safety enforcement.
• Strong working knowledge of food safety, health & safety, and public health legislation.
• Experience investigating food hygiene complaints, RIDDOR notifications, and enforcement matters.
• Excellent communication, organisational, and case management skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, as regular site visits and inspections will be required.
