Your new company

A well-established organisation based in Stafford is seeking an experienced Credit Controller to join its finance team on a 6-month fixed-term contract. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in maintaining strong cash flow, managing customer accounts and supporting the wider finance function during a busy period. Your new role

You will be responsible for managing customer accounts and ensuring invoices are paid within agreed terms. Key duties will include:

• Chasing overdue payments through telephone calls, emails and written correspondence.
• Managing a portfolio of customer accounts and monitoring aged debt reports.
• Building strong relationships with customers to encourage timely payment and resolve issues efficiently.
• Investigating payment delays, invoice discrepancies and account queries.
• Reconciling customer accounts and resolving any outstanding account differences.
• Allocating incoming payments and ensuring cash receipts are accurately recorded.
• Obtaining and processing remittance advice from customers.
• Negotiating payment plans where appropriate and following up on agreed commitments.
• Escalating long-overdue balances and complex issues to management when required.
• Assisting with month-end reporting and providing updates on outstanding debt levels.
• Maintaining accurate records of customer communications and collection activity.
• Working closely with internal departments to resolve billing and payment-related queries.

What you'll need to succeed

• Previous experience within a Credit Control, Accounts Receivable or Sales Ledger environment.
• A strong track record of collecting outstanding debt and improving debtor performance.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• The confidence to liaise with customers at all levels via telephone and email.
• Strong reconciliation and analytical skills with the ability to investigate account discrepancies.
• A proactive and organised approach to workload management.
• Good attention to detail and accuracy.
• Competent Microsoft Excel skills.
• The ability to work independently as well as part of a wider finance team
