Documentation Writer

£30,000 to £40,000 depending on experience

Newcastle upon Tyne | Permanent | Hybrid

Four office days per week during the first 12 weeks, then three days per week.

Do you enjoy taking complex technical information and making it clear, consistent and useful? Can you spot missing steps, question unclear explanations and help others improve their documentation?

TyneStack Partners is recruiting a Documentation Writer for an established financial services business with a substantial internal technology function.

This is a growth opportunity within an existing documentation function. You will work closely with the Documentation Writer who established it, helping maintain and improve the knowledge base covering the organisation’s internal software systems and business processes.

The role

A significant part of your work will involve reviewing documentation written by developers and other contributors. You will improve its structure and readability, identify gaps and work with subject matter experts to clarify information.

Technical documentation will mainly involve reviewing and improving existing drafts. Business documentation will involve a mixture of writing and reviewing.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Reviewing technical and business articles before publication, checking clarity, consistency, completeness and adherence to agreed standards.

• Working with developers, support teams and business stakeholders to validate information and resolve queries.

• Providing clear, constructive feedback to help contributors improve their articles.

• Writing and updating business documentation and supporting technical content where required.

• Applying approved templates, style guides, terminology and governance requirements.

• Identifying documentation gaps and outdated information.

• Organising knowledge base content, maintaining article records and supporting daily administration.

• Using Microsoft Copilot and other approved AI tools sensibly, checking their output and applying your own judgement.

About you

You will have some experience creating, updating or maintaining software documentation, alongside strong writing, proofreading and reviewing skills.

You could currently be a Technical Writer, Technical Author, Information Developer or knowledge management professional. Relevant documentation experience gained within a software support or technical training role will also be considered.

We are looking for:

• The ability to understand technical information and explain it clearly for the intended audience.

• Experience reviewing written content and providing constructive feedback.

• Strong attention to detail and a logical, organised approach.

• Confidence asking questions and working with technical specialists to check accuracy.

• Experience following templates, style guides and documentation processes.

• A personable, curious approach and the ability to take ownership of your work.

• Confidence using Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Outlook and Teams, and familiarity with Copilot.

Useful additional experience

• Document360 or a similar knowledge base or content management platform.

• Reading and understanding SQL and basic database concepts. This is a documentation role and does not require you to be a developer.

• Terminology management.

• Financial services or another regulated environment.

Working arrangements

The role requires four days per week in the Newcastle office during the initial 12 week probation period, reducing to three days per week afterwards. Please consider the full journey to the office when applying.

Interview process

The first interview will be held through Teams or onsite. The final stage will be onsite and include a practical documentation writing or reviewing exercise, followed by a discussion explaining your approach and decisions.

The preferred start date is 7 December 2026.

To apply, send your CV outlining your relevant software documentation, technical writing or content reviewing experience.
