We are working exclusively with one of the UK’s leading independent distributors, supplying retailers nationwide with a wide range of high-quality products. With continued growth, expanding warehousing operations and a commitment to delivering exceptional service our client is looking to recruit a Senior Stock Controller to join their Procurement team in Shildon.

About the Role

The main focus of this role is managing supplier ordering schedules, forecasting stock requirements and coordinating deliveries to ensure customer orders are fulfilled.

You will manage your own portfolio of suppliers, taking responsibility for reviewing demand, deciding replenishment requirements, placing orders and following them through to delivery. This involves maintaining ordering schedules, monitoring supplier lead times and taking action early to prevent shortages or unnecessary stock build-up.

Previous hands-on experience managing supplier ordering schedules, forecasting demand and coordinating supplier deliveries is essential.

This is an office-based role suited to someone with a background in stock replenishment, purchasing or supply planning who is confident managing their own workload and communicating directly with suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain ordering schedules for your allocated suppliers, ensuring orders are placed in time to meet demand.
  • Review sales trends, available stock, stock already on order and outstanding customer orders to forecast replenishment requirements.
  • Plan purchasing around supplier lead times, seasonal demand and changes in sales volumes.
  • Raise and maintain purchase orders, checking quantities, prices and delivery requirements.
  • Communicate regularly with suppliers to confirm availability, agree loading and delivery schedules, and chase outstanding orders.
  • Check supplier orderbooks against internal records and resolve differences in quantities or delivery dates.
  • Monitor shortages and delayed orders, working with suppliers and internal teams to prioritise stock needed for customers.
  • Review stock across depots and coordinate internal transfers to support availability.
  • Identify excess, slow-moving and obsolete stock, recommending action to reduce unnecessary stockholding.
  • Maintain accurate ordering schedules, stock reports and expected delivery dates using Excel and internal systems.
  • Investigate stock discrepancies with warehouse teams and help improve stock accuracy and ordering processes.

About You

Essential:

  • Proven experience managing supplier ordering schedules, forecasting demand, placing purchase orders and coordinating deliveries.

Desirable:

  • Experience in multi-site distribution, wholesale or a high-volume inventory environment.
  • Experience coordinating stock transfers between locations.
  • Three or more years of relevant stock control, purchasing or supply planning experience.
  • Confident Excel skills and experience using purchasing, stock control or ERP systems.
  • Strong numerical and problem-solving skills, with excellent accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good organisation and the ability to manage your own workload and competing priorities.
  • Confident communication skills when working with suppliers and internal teams.
