Contract opportunity | Ayrshire, Scotland
Location
Ayrshire, Scotland – site based
Duration
At least 8 months
Engagement
Contract; UK limited company engagement considered, subject to status assessment
Experience
Approximately 5–8 years of relevant QS experience (guidance, not a strict limit)
The opportunity
Recruit-i is recruiting a Quantity Surveyor to support a contractor delivering works on an established industrial construction project in Ayrshire. This is a practical, delivery-focused commercial position for someone who enjoys being close to the work and can turn day-to-day site activity into reliable commercial records and timely contract notifications.
The role is predominantly out on site, working alongside construction teams to understand progress, identify changes as they arise and ensure the evidence needed to support early warnings and compensation events is captured promptly. This is not a remote or mainly office-based QS position.
Key responsibilities
* Spend time at the workface each day, checking progress against scope, drawings, schedules and site instructions.
* Maintain accurate contemporaneous site records, including labour, plant, materials, access constraints, disruption and changes to sequence or scope.
* Spot potential commercial changes early and work with site management to prepare timely early warnings and compensation event (CE) information, where applicable under the contract.
* Gather and organise supporting evidence for CE quotations, including photographs, daily reports, measured quantities, site instructions and programme input.
* Assist with measurement, valuation of completed works, variations and preparation of applications for payment.
* Liaise closely with site supervisors, engineers, planners and the commercial team to verify progress and understand emerging risks.
* Support change registers, commercial reporting and reconciliation of site records against agreed scope and quantities.
* Help maintain disciplined contractual communications and records in line with the relevant contract requirements.
Experience and approach
* Ideally around 5–8 years of quantity surveying experience in construction, engineering or industrial projects; relevant capability matters more than an exact number of years.
* A strong site-based background, with confidence engaging directly with supervisors and construction teams.
* Practical knowledge of change control, early warnings and compensation events; NEC experience would be advantageous.
* Comfortable measuring progress, maintaining accurate records and recognising when site circumstances may have commercial implications.
* Organised, commercially alert and able to follow issues through without relying on extensive supervision.
* Experience on mechanical, piping, industrial installation or multidisciplinary construction packages would be useful, but is not essential.
Working arrangements
This is an on-site contract role in Ayrshire, expected to run for at least eight months. Applicants should be able to attend site consistently. UK limited company engagement can be considered, subject to the appropriate contractual and off-payroll working assessment. Rate will be discussed against relevant experience and suitability
