Accounts Senior – Independent Accountancy Practice

Horsforth, Leeds | £30,000–£40,000 | Highly Flexible Hybrid Working (Just 1 Day in the Office if preferred)

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Accounts Senior to join a friendly and well-established independent accountancy practice in Horsforth, Leeds.

This position offers an excellent level of flexibility, with the opportunity to work predominantly from home and attend the office as little as one day per week.

The firm has a close-knit team and prides itself on delivering a genuinely personal service to clients. Rather than taking a purely transactional approach to accountancy, the focus is on building strong relationships, understanding clients' businesses and providing practical, ongoing support.

You'll work with a varied portfolio of owner-managed businesses and SMEs across different industries, taking responsibility for accounts preparation, client communication and some personal tax work.

This would particularly suit an experienced Accounts Senior who enjoys managing their own workload, communicating directly with clients and working in a smaller, supportive practice where they can make a genuine contribution.

Duties and responsibilities

• Prepare year-end and statutory accounts for a varied portfolio of limited companies, sole traders and partnerships.
• Manage accounts preparation assignments from initial bookkeeping records through to completion.
• Prepare and assist with personal tax returns and Self Assessment submissions.
• Work directly with clients, responding to queries and providing practical advice on accounting and financial matters.
• Build strong, long-term client relationships through regular telephone, email and face-to-face communication.
• Use cloud accounting software, including Xero, to prepare accounts and review financial information.
• Review bookkeeping records, reconciliations and supporting schedules to ensure accuracy.
• Identify potential issues and opportunities within client accounts, discussing these with senior colleagues where appropriate.
• Liaise with colleagues across the accounts, bookkeeping and tax teams to ensure clients receive a joined-up service.
• Manage your own workload and deadlines, ensuring assignments are completed efficiently and to a high standard.

Experience and qualifications

• Strong background in accounts preparation within a UK accountancy practice.
• Experience preparing year-end accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships.
• ACA or ACCA qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience, with relevant practical knowledge.
• Experience using cloud accounting software such as Xero would be advantageous.
• Some experience preparing personal tax returns would be beneficial.
• Confident communicating directly with clients and responding to accounting queries.
• Ability to manage your own workload, prioritise assignments and work independently.
• Strong attention to detail, organisational skills and a proactive approach.
• A friendly, personable attitude with a genuine interest in developing long-term client relationships.
