Turn Your Psychology Degree into Real-World Experience
Are you a Psychology graduate looking to gain valuable, hands-on experience before pursuing a career in Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology, Mental Health, Speech and Language Therapy or a related profession?
Do you have the resilience, patience and emotional maturity to support children and young people who may experience significant challenges with learning, communication and emotional regulation?
Aspire People are recruiting enthusiastic and dedicated Psychology Graduates to work as SEN Teaching Assistants within a specialist school in the Royston and Meldreth area of Hertfordshire.
This is an excellent opportunity to put your degree into practice, develop practical skills and gain first-hand experience working with children and young people aged 6-19 with additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, communication needs and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is a rewarding role, but it is not always an easy one. You will need to be resilient, adaptable and able to remain calm and positive when faced with challenging behaviour, emotional distress or situations that require patience and consistency. Building trust and making progress with some pupils takes time, perseverance and a genuine commitment to understanding their individual needs.
No previous SEN experience is essential. We are far more interested in your attitude, resilience, commitment and willingness to learn.
What Will the Role Involve?
Supporting pupils with their learning, communication and personal development.
Delivering individual and small-group learning activities.
Helping pupils develop independence, confidence and social skills.
Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
Responding calmly and consistently to challenging situations.
Adapting your approach to meet individual needs.
Supporting classroom activities and daily school routines.
Providing personal care where required.
Working alongside teachers, therapists and other professionals.
What Are We Looking For?
We are particularly interested in Psychology graduates who are passionate about understanding behaviour and supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning.
You will need:
A degree in Psychology or a closely related subject.
GCSE English and Maths, or equivalent qualifications.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
A patient, empathetic and understanding approach.
Strong emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Confidence in managing situations where pupils may display challenging behaviour or become emotionally distressed.
The ability to be consistent, positive and persistent, even when progress is gradual.
A willingness to learn, accept feedback and develop professionally.
Previous experience working with children or individuals with additional needs is beneficial but not essential.

You will benefit from funded training, recognised qualifications, ongoing professional development and the opportunity to learn from experienced teachers, therapists and support professionals.
