Make a Genuine Difference Through Specialist 1:1 Tuition

Are you an experienced Autism Specialist Tutor, SEN Teacher or education professional passionate about supporting autistic children and young people through personalised learning?

New Chapter Tuition is recruiting experienced educators in Southend-on-Sea to deliver specialist 1:1 tuition to children and young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), communication differences, sensory processing needs and additional learning difficulties.

Working alongside Local Authorities, schools and families, we provide relationship-led, trauma-informed education that helps learners build confidence, develop independence and re-engage with learning.

This is an opportunity to deliver meaningful, individualised education with consistent weekly timetables, additional paid planning time and a positive work-life balance.

The Role

You'll deliver personalised, face-to-face 1:1 tuition in learners' homes and suitable community settings across Southend-on-Sea.

Responsibilities include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated Maths, English and wider curriculum activities.
  • Adapting teaching to individual communication, sensory processing and emotional regulation needs.
  • Using visual timetables, social stories, sensory resources and structured learning activities.
  • Supporting learners experiencing anxiety, school avoidance (EBSA), communication barriers or difficulties with transitions.
  • Building positive relationships through predictable routines, learner interests and individualised approaches.
  • Monitoring progress, supporting EHCP outcomes and completing weekly tuition reports.
Who We're Looking For

We're particularly interested in experienced Autism Tutors, SEN Teachers and specialist educators who have:

  • Proven experience teaching or tutoring autistic children and young people.
  • Strong understanding of autism, sensory processing differences and communication needs.
  • Experience adapting learning for pupils with additional needs, anxiety or emotional regulation difficulties.
  • Confidence using visual supports, social stories and multisensory teaching approaches.
  • A patient, creative and person-centred approach to education.
  • Strong safeguarding awareness and commitment to consistent 1:1 support.
  • The ability to travel to tuition locations across Southend-on-Sea.

QTS or QTLS is desirable but not essential. Relevant autism and SEND teaching or tutoring experience is essential.

What We Offer
  • £30–£35 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Additional paid planning, preparation and assessment (PPA) time.
  • Consistent, ongoing 1:1 tuition packages with regular weekly timetables.
  • Daytime, term-time working and a positive work-life balance.
  • Dedicated support from an experienced SEND-focused team.
  • Access to specialist training, professional development, and educational tools and platforms.
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful difference through personalised education.
