Your Role as a SEN Teaching Assistant

You will support pupils one-to-one or in small groups to regulate emotions, follow routines and participate more independently, using agreed behaviour and support plans.

• Build positive relationships and reinforce clear, consistent expectations.
• Use agreed de-escalation strategies and recognise triggers or early signs of distress.
• Break learning into manageable steps and help pupils return to lessons after difficulties.
• Record relevant observations and work closely with teachers and pastoral staff.

What We're Looking For in a SEN Teaching Assistant

• Experience as a SEN Teaching Assistant, or credible transferable experience in behaviour support, youth work, care or mentoring.
• A SEN Teaching Assistant who remains composed, uses sound judgement and follows school guidance.
• Experience supporting SEMH needs is advantageous; any specialist strategies must reflect your training.
• Safeguarding awareness and an enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to apply for one.
