We are partnering with a leading UK professional trustee organisation to secure a really experienced pensions professional with a proven track record of chairing board meetings to join their team as a Trustee Director.

This is an exceptional career opportunity for an accomplished senior pensions leader looking to take complete ownership of a high-profile portfolio of pension scheme trusteeships. You will be someone who can stand on your own two feet, act as a corporate director and independently lead board-level discussions and strategic governance. While collaborating closely with a high-performing professional team, you will drive service delivery, handle the commercial aspects of client accounts, and provide high-level strategic oversight for major corporate schemes.

You will play a pivotal role in delivering professional pension trustee services, developing a portfolio of trusteeships, chairing board and committee meetings and ensuring the commercial profitability and quality of client accounts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Board Leadership & Chairing: Act as the main point of contact, leading client relationships independently, chairing board and committee meetings, and guiding trustees through critical decisions.
  • Portfolio Trusteeship: Take day-to-day responsibility for running specific pension schemes within your portfolio, ensuring scheme objectives and statutory/legal obligations are fully met.
  • Strategic Governance & Projects: Support trustees with strategic planning, risk management, and specialized project work (such as buy-ins, insurance transactions, funding discussions, and corporate restructurings).
  • Business Development & Commercials: Help grow and market the trustee business, manage client commercial relationships, and ensure work is delivered profitably and in alignment with business objectives.
  • Team Collaboration: Participate in the development of the wider professional trustee team, sharing knowledge and best practices.

Experience & Skills Required:

  • Extensive senior-level experience within the UK pensions industry, with a strong background in pensions trusteeship and a proven track record of chairing board meetings.
  • Appropriate professional qualifications (e.g., APMI, actuarial, legal) alongside completion of TPR’s Trustee Toolkit and PMI Award in Trusteeship (or willingness to complete within 6 months).
  • Strong technical knowledge of all types of occupational pension schemes (DB and/or DC) and current regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent relationship-building, stakeholder management, and communication skills, with the confidence to challenge norms and guide boards independently.
  • Strong commercial awareness, business development capability, and a proactive “sleeves-rolled-up” approach.
