1:1 EOTAS Tutor

Location: Bridgwater, Somerset
Role: 1:1 EOTAS Tutor
Phase: Secondary
Working Arrangement: In-person

About the Role

Quantum Scholars is seeking a patient, supportive and experienced 1:1 EOTAS Tutor to provide personalised educational support to a secondary-aged young person in Bridgwater, Somerset, who is receiving Education Otherwise Than at School (EOTAS).

The successful candidate will have experience supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and/or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You will be confident adapting your teaching approach to suit individual learning needs, helping the young person re-engage with education, develop confidence and make meaningful progress.

Experience supporting learners who experience anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement or challenging behaviour would be particularly beneficial. The ideal tutor will be calm, flexible and resilient, with the ability to build positive relationships, maintain appropriate boundaries and create a supportive learning environment.

This role would suit a tutor who understands that every young person learns differently and can provide a structured yet flexible approach to help them overcome barriers to education.

Sessions may take place in the young person's home or another suitable community setting, depending on their individual needs.

Key Responsibilities

The role may involve:

  • Delivering tailored, one-to-one educational support as part of an EOTAS provision.

  • Supporting learning across relevant secondary curriculum subjects, depending on the tutor's experience and the young person's needs.

  • Supporting GCSE-level learning and exam preparation where appropriate.

  • Identifying gaps in knowledge and developing activities to support academic progress.

  • Adapting teaching methods, resources and session structures to suit the learner's abilities, interests and learning style.

  • Breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps to encourage understanding and engagement.

  • Supporting a young person who may face barriers to mainstream education, including anxiety, low confidence, school avoidance or disengagement.

  • Responding calmly and consistently to challenging behaviour, using appropriate positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques where necessary.

  • Building a trusting professional relationship while maintaining clear boundaries and expectations.

  • Encouraging confidence, independence, resilience and positive learning habits.

  • Creating a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.

  • Monitoring progress and providing feedback to parents/carers and other relevant professionals where appropriate.

  • Working collaboratively with those involved in the young person's education and support.

  • Maintaining appropriate records, confidentiality and safeguarding procedures.

Essential Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working with secondary-aged young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.

  • Experience delivering one-to-one tuition or personalised educational support.

  • An understanding of EOTAS, alternative provision or other non-mainstream educational settings.

  • The ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual academic, emotional and behavioural needs.

  • Experience supporting young people who may struggle to engage with education or display challenging behaviour.

  • A calm, patient, empathetic and resilient approach.

  • Confidence building positive relationships and maintaining professional boundaries.

  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

  • Reliability, flexibility and a genuine commitment to helping young people achieve their potential.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

  • An enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and the right to work in the UK.

Experience working with young people who have experienced disrupted education or who require a flexible, individualised approach would be particularly advantageous.

Quantum Scholars is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All applicants will be subject to appropriate safeguarding and safer recruitment checks.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate's qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client's pay policy.
