Senior Credit Controller
This is credit control with the exciting challenge of covering the full cash process, from the contracts at the start through to payment received. Whether the money comes in through chasing or through the legal route, you'll be the one making sure it gets there. You'll be reviewing accounts, payment terms and contracts, and preparing the case yourself when an account needs to go to the solicitors.
The business is an education provider, and you'll be chasing student fees. They need a confident chaser who also enjoys the detail, because when an account is escalated the paperwork has to be spot on and solicitors are strict about what they need to see. If you love credit control and want to own the whole journey rather than just one stage of it, this is one to look at.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Owning your own portfolio of accounts from the first missed payment onwards, chasing student fees by phone, email and letter and keeping every conversation professional, firm and fair
  • Negotiating payment arrangements, then monitoring them and picking up the phone quickly when a payment slips
  • Reviewing aged debt reports and prioritising the accounts that need action first
  • Deciding when an account is ready to escalate by checking every touch point: have we chased at every stage, is the contact history complete, is the audit trail watertight?
  • Building complete case files for solicitors, pulling together contracts, invoices, statements and payment history, and working with colleagues to get anything that is missing
  • Reviewing contracts and fee agreements so you know exactly what the business is owed and what it can enforce before taking recovery further
  • Liaising with external solicitors, answering their queries and keeping referred cases moving through to a conclusion
  • Reviewing payment terms and weighing up whether a settlement now is worth more than a payment plan stretching over years
  • Investigating fee queries and disputes, holding your ground and explaining what has been agreed
  • Reporting on aged debt, payment arrangements and escalated cases so decisions can be made quickly
What We Need From You
  • A strong chaser: confident on the phone, clear in writing, and comfortable holding your ground when conversations get difficult or sensitive
  • Hands-on experience of taking debts through the full credit control process, including escalating cases to a solicitor or collection agency
  • Someone who takes real pride in getting the detail right. Legal recovery is strict about what it needs to see, so we need someone diligent with documentation
  • The commercial confidence to negotiate payment plans and judge when a settlement makes more sense than waiting
  • A self-starter who thinks for themselves, reads between the lines on the systems and doesn't need guidance on every account
  • Strong Excel and reporting skills, comfortable pulling numbers together and spotting what they are telling you
  • Experience in education, or collecting from individual payers, is a real bonus but not essential
  • Immediately available or on a short notice period, as they want the right person in as soon as possible
What's in it for you
  • On-site parking
  • Set Monday to Friday hours, 9am to 5pm
  • Hands-on exposure to the full cash process, from contracts through to payment received, including working directly with solicitors
  • Genuine responsibility, with the trust to negotiate payment arrangements and recommend recovery action
  • Admin support from a colleague who can help collate documents
  • Potential for the contract to be extended beyond the initial period
If this sounds like the credit control role you've been looking for and you think you'd fit, we'd love to hear from you.
