Senior Drainage Engineer

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000

We are currently looking for a Senior Drainage Engineer to join an established civil engineering consultancy in London.

This is a great opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of development-led projects, with a strong focus on drainage design, surface water management and flood risk. You'll be involved in projects from initial concept through to detailed design and construction, working closely with clients, project managers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

The role would suit an engineer with experience in UK development infrastructure who is looking to further develop their technical expertise, take ownership of projects and progress their career within a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop drainage strategies and detailed drainage solutions for residential, commercial and mixed-use developments.
• Undertake surface water drainage design, including sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) and attenuation solutions.
• Prepare drainage strategies, flood risk assessments and technical reports to support planning applications.
• Develop drainage designs for Section 104 (S104), Section 38 (S38) and Section 278 (S278) applications where required.
• Carry out hydraulic modelling and drainage calculations using MicroDrainage, Causeway Flow or similar software.
• Produce detailed drawings and design information using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Assess site constraints, existing drainage infrastructure and surface water management requirements.
• Liaise with clients, local authorities, water companies and other project stakeholders.
• Review technical drawings, calculations and reports, providing guidance to junior engineers where appropriate.
• Manage project deliverables, ensuring work is completed to the required technical standards and within agreed timescales.

About You

• A degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least two years' experience in UK development-related civil engineering, with a particular focus on drainage design.
• Strong knowledge of surface water drainage, SuDS principles and drainage design from first principles.
• Experience preparing drainage strategies and/or flood risk assessments.
• Familiarity with MicroDrainage, Causeway Flow or comparable drainage design software.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD, with Civil 3D experience beneficial.
• Understanding of relevant design standards, planning policy and drainage approval processes.
• Strong communication and report-writing skills.
• The ability to manage workloads effectively and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• A proactive approach to professional development, with an interest in working towards chartership.
